Back to the basics.
Tiny11 core brings everything you love about Windows and tiny11, in a much smaller footprint.
This makes it great for scenarios where you need to run Windows in a VM or for testing purposes (like testing a driver or an application).
To achieve this, some significant changes had to be made, including (but not limited to):
- Windows Component Store (WinSxS)
- Windows Defender
- Recovery Agent
- Microsoft Edge
- Windows Update
As such, I strongly recommend to exercise increased caution if you're trying to use tiny11 core on production systems, as it has limited security and NO serviceability.
It is not a replacement for tiny11! It has a different purpose: to be a quick-and-dirty testbed or development platform.
However, it should not need any other components to run most (if not all) of the applications designed for Windows, as .NET 3.5 and Internet Explorer core are enabled by default.
It is based on Windows 11 Pro 23H2 build 22631.2361.
To install a browser, just use Microsoft Store or Winget.
Known issues:
- The Windows Update menu from the Settings app crashes when being opened (because the functionality has been removed but the entry is still there).
Make sure to have network drivers ready, as tiny11 core removes most of them to achieve a smaller footprint. (however, you shouldn't need any network drivers for VMware or VirtualBox or Hyper-V)
Since this is a beta, feedback is very much appreciated!
You can find the complete list of what has been removed in the included NTLite .xml file, except for the Component Store, which has been removed through a more manual technique of trial and error, like in older builds of tiny10.
As always, I appreciate your support for my work. If you find it useful and want to show your gratitude, you can donate through any of these links: patreon.com/ntdev, paypal.me/ntdev2 or ko-fi.com/ntdev. Thank you!

I downloaded this to install it on a Hyper-V virtual machine, and it works fine. Except that it's using 7 GiB instead of the advertised 3 GB. I was able to free about 800 MB by reducing the page file size from ~1GB to 200 MB.
Other than that, it kinda works fine.

Love it and use it on all my systems, even my main for gaming and entertainment. Would love a more current windows build though with some of the newer features. Things like audio control, just quality of life updates. Please drop a Beta 2, or even a full release.

In the introduction video of tiny11 core it advertises 3gb is all that is needed for the system.
I made a vm with an 8gig disk, and it was impressive that windows allowed it, and it was smooth sailling. But even without any networking capability it still took pretty much all of the disk.
It did dissapoint me slightly, but I can't complain otherwise.

Installed on my offline PC for some work and does a great job.
The one thing I can't get to work is the Windows Photo Viewer (Not Windows 11 Photo app) that I use a lot. Tried all my tricks, can someone please hint me?
Thank you very much.

Subject: Great performance for low end PCs and also free up space for low storage of SSDs
This was 2nd time testing of Tiny11 Core on my 2013's AMD PC which is came with 2GB of RAM and with HDD and performance effect was GREAT! but it was not gaming in this PC anymore! Since in older one Tiny11 was little fine as performance! As i should use this as main OS on my old PC!
2nd in my Intel i3 7th Gen Laptop i recently installed on it! It came with high RAM as 8GB with SSD! This is was first time experience on Tiny11 in my laptop as performance was very smooth as well because it has SSD! But however after installing an Tiny11 Core may causes Wi-Fi has loses integrated drivers it has only those keys working as for laptop users i recommend you to install as manually drivers in website! For Windows Updates i didn't tested yet as i don't wanna update anymore! Everything is fine!
Great work NTDEV! Keep more updates soon!

Here is my update, I have run the tiny11/Beta1 a month on various PCs. Thanks for your endeavors on this project.
1. cannot run repair-install. it's an important feature of Windows 10/11. hope you can fix it. it's ok that Beta1 no this feature. but I hope tiny11 can get this feature back (as I cannot always re-install/clean-install tiny11. Often repair-install is more efficient)
2. network sharing. The PC cannot see other computers on network. While other PCs no any problem to see it.
3. screen-saver NOT working. pull-down menu is blank.
tiny11/Beta1 run pretty well on DDR3/DDR4 PCs (Dell HP Lenovo Asus, , ,). Great.
on DDR2 PCs, however often freezing up. I did test, even full version Windows 11 has this problem (of course, it's over-sized to DDR2 hardware. and much bigger than tiny11/Beta1). on ECS 7050/7100, both suffered. hence they stay with Windows XP/7. Windows 11 is NOT good for them. no matter full version or tiny11/Beta1.
Last, please block or remove ID MatildaFatimaEgypt. it's annoying. prefer this forum more technical.

12/18/2023 Update
I continued my test on tiny11 2311 as well as on beta 1.
my testing PCs are Asus and ECS (DDR2 RAM. If working fine, plan to test on HP 800 family, DDR4 RAM)
tiny 2311 is more like Windows 11 full version with smaller size. its boot/start time is similar to a full version. I was about to test it on laptop but found my laptops all were using Windows 10/11 Home. (tiny11 is based on Windows 11 Pro. I did try then later saw its digital license failed).
beta 1. on PC with DDR2 RAM, its performance seemed much better than that of Windows 11 full version. faster. those DDR2 PCs were running Windows XP. hence beta 1 could be a good replacement of OS XP (XP cannot handle with GPT disk. other features are still good).
however, I prefer tiny11 2311 rather than beta 1. as the latter often got freezing up when surfing internet, especially on youtube. graphics driver upgrade couldn't fixed the problem. tried FF, Edge and Chrome. same issue. no idea if Windows driver missing (DirectX?) or PC hardware driver missing.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
12/10/2023
tested it on ASUS M2A-VM, a 17-yr-old desktop. install went through. got one yellow mark (driver missing). but PC running fine.
had to set MBR when using Rufus to make USB boot. for a PC 17 yrs old, GPT is no go.
now need to find a way to use this PC. it seems too slow even for internet surfing.
my gaming performance on my trash laptop just doubled ever since i was just using windows 10 1803. the ram usage though wasnt better but its still crazy for windows 11, i got 1.0 gb on idle. [i have 2gb ram btw, so it didnt survive multiple chrome tabs] but its no big deal. it only gets better with the revios playbook. great job, ntdev
Subject: Works great for VM usage, but could be tweaked even further
I've been using this to run a few Windows apps in a VM on my Linux seamlessly (using WinApps + KVM), and it's been great. One thing I've noticed however is that there are a lot of unnecessary services (for VM usage / testing) which I've disabled:
AppX Deployment Serivce - 106MB
Connected Devices - 2.1MB
DevicesFlow - 1.1MB
Print Spooler - 3.2MB
Radio Management - 1.2MB
Sync Host - 0.9MB
SysMain (Superfetch) - 35.6MB
Web Threat Defence Service - 1.9MB
Windows Search - 6MB
Windows Connection Manager - 1.7MB
Windows Update - 30MB
This bought my total idle RAM usage to just 605 MB, which is 236 MB less than what was seen in NTDEV's YouTube video! My goal now is to see if I can bring the idle CPU usage down - it idles at 1% right now and I'm sure with further tweaks we can get it down to 0% - others have done it before, so it should be possible with this build too.
If at all possible, can we get a way to get drivers?
I REALLY REALLY like this! I'm running it on a HP 608 G1 tablet and it's way way better than any OS on it. Seriously brings it back from the dead. The Atom Z8550 just doesn't have enough, but this fixes it completely.
I might even get another 608 G1 because of this because the screen is incredible and having a modern OS allows it to be a great wall display for Home Assistant or other dashboards.
EXCELLENT work, just have to get a way to get windows update drivers. Even if we could temporarily add windows update or find a way to just quiry the driver section.
